75 Product Ideas to Sell Online (2024 Edition)

One of the hardest parts of starting an ecommerce business is finding a product to actually sell!

This is why we created a list of products, both physical and digital that you could potentially start selling online but just a quick disclaimer, we aren’t saying that these are guaranteed to sell, instead, we created this list to get your creative juices flowing to hopefully help you come up with an idea that you can research further.

How Do You Choose A Product To Sell Online?

Before we get into the list, it is really and I do mean really important to know how to choose the right product to sell online because just guessing what you think will sell is a quick way to failure!

So what is the process for finding profitable products that will sell?

Step 1: Find A Problem To Solve

Every product that is sold online solves a problem in one way or another and the very first step of the process is to find a problem and there are multiple ways to go about this:

  1. Look At Yourself: Are there any gaps in the market around your profession, interests or hobbies?
  2. Friends, Family & Communities: Look at your wider circle to see if they are having problems solving a problem, this can include online communities such as Facebook Groups and Reddit
  3. Trends: Keep an eye on upcoming trends to see of there are any opportunities, you can use tools like Google Trends and Trend Hunter

One thing I would recommend is selling products in a niche that you know about and are interested in as it makes the research process a lot easier and this is a common trait amongst founders of successful ecommerce businesses.

Example: Gymshark

Ben Francis who founded Gymshark was and is hugely passionate about fitness and this, combined with his entrepreneurial drive led him to build the fastest-growing gym wear brand of the past decade.

But there is a step beyond just solving a problem and that is what is the driving force behind people looking to buy that product and it falls into 1 of 2 categories:

Things People NEED!

These are products that people buy because they need to solve a specific problem and includes things like:

  • Tools
  • Cleaning Products
  • Certain types of Clothing
  • Protective Equipment

Things People WANT!

These are products that satisfy a desire because no-one needs these products but they want them and includes:

  • Jewelry & Luxury Watches
  • Majority of Beauty Products
  • Fashion & Accessories
  • Luxury Foods (Chocolate etc)

Once you have found a problem to solve, it is time to move on to step 2…

Step 2: Research The Market & Demand

Next up is researching the market as you want to know:

  • Who your competition will be
  • How much demand there is for that product

The first one is pretty simple as a few simple Google searches will give you a good idea of who is selling the same/similar products and how well they are positioned in the market, such as:

  • How well do they rank in organic search?
  • How big the company is? (the bigger they are, the larger their marketing budget)
  • How good the company is? (check out customer reviews of the company and products)
  • How big their online presence is? (Facebook, Instagram etc)

Doing this for multiple of your competitors will give you a good idea as to how easy/difficult it is going to be to get your product in front of your target audience.

Once you have checked out the competition, it is time to start seeing if there is any demand for the product and how big that demand might be, which is the more challenging part and takes some effort but can include:

  • Using keyword research tools such as Google Keyword Planner, Semrush or Answer The Public
  • Asking and posting polls in community groups
  • Seeing if people are searching for and viewing content on social media

By doing this, you will get a good idea of the demand for your potential products and once you are happy that there is enough demand and you think there are opportunities against your competition, it is time to move on to step 3…

Step 3: Is it Profitable to Sell?

I can’t stress this point enough, if you are going to be selling products online, then it has to be profitable to do so! Because if it isn’t, then you are going to be wasting a lot of hard work.

When it comes to figuring out profitability, you need to look at two things:

Profit Per Product

The first profit calculation is on each individual product sale and for this you will need:

  • Sale Price
  • Cost Price
  • Sale Costs (payment gateway fees, shipping and packaging costs)

Then it is a simple formula of Sale Price – Cost Price – Sale Costs = Net Profit Per Product

Business Profit

The next profit calculations are looking at the business as a whole as you want to build a profitable business and for this you will need:

  • Projected Sales (be realistic)
  • Fixed Costs (rent, rates etc)
  • Variable Costs (utilities, business supplies etc)

You then calculate whether you have the potential to build a profitable business and don’t forget about paying yourself!

Some of this may include some guestimates and for sales volume, it is always best to air on the side of caution and go with your lowest potential sales number but you still need to have a basic idea as to whether this has the potential to be a profitable venture or not.

We have created a profit calculator, which will help you get an idea of what the profit per product is going to be.

One other thing that you should consider is logistics such as how easy is it to store, move and ship your products (if you are looking to sell physical products) as in some cases, certain types of products just aren’t practical to sell online.

But once you have done your product research, you will have the basic idea in place about the products you are going to sell and the niche you are going to be operating in.

Physical Products

Let’s start with physical products that you need to buy, store and ship to your customers and there are a lot of options…

1. Clothing

If you are a fashionista or someone with an eye for style, then selling clothing could be a great option for you and there are many different ways you can go about this, such as:

  1. Starting your own fashion brand
  2. Selling vintage clothing
  3. Reselling rare or exclusive items

Many businesses find success by finding a specialist niche such as sportswear, eco-friendly clothing or streetwear as it can be easier to define who your target audience is, which makes marketing a lot easier.

2. Shapewear

A niche within the fashion industry that has seen large growth is shapewear, which is clothing designed to enhance the body’s natural shape and provide support, slimming and smoothing to specific areas and is usually warn underneath other clothes so that people feel happier when wearing their favorite outfits

Some of the different types of shapewear includes:

  • Bodysuits
  • Shorts
  • Leggings
  • Dresses

And as we live in an image-conscious society, it is likely to be a product that is going to be around for a while.

3. Lingerie

Lingerie is big business, so much so that the industry was worth over $50 billion in 2022 and can be a very profitable product to sell as ladies like to look good and feel sexy.

There are also many different types of lingerie that you can sell, from more mainstream products to very niche ones but we will leave you to do the research on this one!

4. Adult Toys

Following on from lingerie is adult toys and we aren’t talking about adult lego sets here, no we are talking about toys that are generally used in private, where people like to enjoy themselves.

These can be sold alongside lingerie but there are many businesses out there that just specialize in adult toys and if you can find a white-label supplier, you could launch your own range of branded toys.

5. Maternity Wear

The world’s population is growing every year, which means that more people are getting pregnant every year and they need clothes for this time period.

And if you can find or design a range of stylish maternity wear, then you may be on to a winner as many pregnant people still want to look and feel good while they are carrying or you could opt for a range of incredibly comfy maternity wear as comfort is important when carrying a little one.

6. Baby Clothes & Accessories

A growing population means that there are more babies in the world and they not only need clothes but also accessories, such as:

  • Bottles
  • Strollers
  • Car seats
  • High chairs

There are many different options and niches within the baby industry but just make sure that the products you are selling pass any safety regulations.

7. Fashion Accessories

Accessories can make an outfit and you can choose to sell a range of fashion accessories or niche down to a single product type, such as:

  • Hats
  • Belts
  • Socks
  • Bags
  • Wallets/purses

There are many businesses that have become successful by doing this and you can even niche down within these products to help get some initial traction, you could even sell customized fashion accessories by using something like print-on-demand.

8. Jewelry

If bling is more your thing, then you could consider selling jewelry online as more and more people are browsing for everything from fashion to fine jewelry and everything in between, with many niches falling under the jewelry heading.

There are also different options in terms of how the jewelry is made/supplied, such as:

  • Handmade Jewelry
  • Pre-owned & Vintage Jewelry
  • Reselling New Jewelry (bought from a wholesale supplier)

As you can see there are many options and niches that fall under the jewelry heading.

9. Footwear

From sneakers to high heels to work boots, there are many different opportunities when it comes to selling footwear online as basically everybody needs to wear some form of footwear and this has potential for an ecommerce business as you could:

  • Your own footwear company (Crocs anyone?)
  • Selling vintage or rare footwear
  • Personalized or customized footwear, could be branded or unbranded

And as there are people who are very passionate about their footwear, you could tap into this market and build yourself a successful business.

10. Hair & Beauty Products

People like to look good, whether it is doing their hair, wearing make-up or looking after their skin amongst many other things and even though these have been popular for years, the digital age has made a lot more people think about their looks.

And more people are shopping online for their hair and beauty products as it allows them access to a far larger range of products than their local store, which is why it can be a good option for an online store but just make sure any products you sell meet any regulations that apply to these types of products.

11. Men’s Grooming

A niche that has seen huge growth in the last few years is men’s grooming as more men are spending more time and money on their personal grooming and it doesn’t show any sign of slowing down (we like to look good as well!).

There are also quite a few product types that fall under the male grooming category, such as:

  • Hair care products
  • Products for Beards
  • Skin Products

But as with beauty products, make sure they meet any regulations before selling them.

12. Perfume and Cologne

Not only do people like to look good but they like to smell good as well and you could choose to resell existing perfumes or develop your own range of scents as many people like to buy from small artisanal producers, especially if they have a USP that matches with their own values, for example:

  • Only using natural ingredients
  • All ingredients are ethically sourced
  • Vegan friendly

You could also produce sample sizes, so people can try it first before buying a full-size bottle.

13. Eco-Friendly Products

More and more people are becoming eco-aware and want to do their bit to help the planet and one of the ways they are looking to do this is by switching to eco-friendly products and while this is a very broad subject, it can include products that:

  • Don’t contain any plastics
  • Are produced in an eco-friendly way such as little or no chemicals
  • Are made from sustainable materials

There are many suppliers out there for greener products but one of the great things is that if you can come up with a way to make another product more eco-friendly, then you have carved yourself a niche.

14. Health & Wellness Products

One area that is seeing a lot of growth is health and wellness products as we are becoming more conscious of both our physical and mental health and many people are turning to products that can help them lead a healthier and happier life, including:

  • Nutritional supplements
  • Natural remedies and herbal supplements
  • Sleep aids
  • Essential oils & accessories

When selling these types of products, be careful about any claims you make as they all need to be backed up by facts and research.

15. Home Exercise Equipment

The pandemic changed how many people work out and many people now prefer to work out at home, rather than going to the gym, many beginners also prefer to get started at home and this is why home exercise equipment could be a great idea to start selling online and there are many different types of equipment you could sell, including:

  • Basic weightlifting equipment such as dumbells, pull-up bars etc
  • Cardio equipment such as exercise bikes, treadmills etc
  • Yoga and Pilates equipment

One consideration for selling exercise equipment is the storage and shipping of the products as some can be very large and also heavy.

16. Sports Equipment

People love sports and many people like taking part in their favorite sports, which is why selling sports equipment can be a good potential business idea and in many cases, it can be best to focus on a single sport, such as:

  • Golf
  • Tennis
  • Running

As it can be easier to build a business around a single niche, in terms of finding your target audience and marketing than trying to just become a general sports equipment store.

17. Sportswear

We could have included this under clothing but sportswear is an industry in its own right and when done right can be incredibly profitable (just look at Gymshark!) but as with sports equipment, there are many different sports out there that require their own unique type of clothing, for example:

  • Gym/workout
  • Swimwear
  • Cycling
  • Team sports such as Football or Basketball

As with the clothing, you can choose to resell existing brands or create your own and if you can create a product that solves a common problem or does something better than the competition, then you could be on to a winner.

18. Outdoor Gear

A common hobby for many people is exploring the great outdoors and getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, especially if you live in a big city and this can range from taking a gentle walk in the countryside to a week away in the wilderness and so much more.

But in order to be able to do this safely and also in relative comfort, people are going to need some outdoor gear, which can include:

  • Hiking equipment
  • Outdoor clothing & footwear
  • Tents & sleeping bags
  • Portable cookware
  • Water bottles

If you are going to think about selling outdoor gear, then make sure it is good quality and does what it is supposed to as people are going to be relying on it!

19. Travel Accessories

Whether it is jetting off to an exotic destination, going on a city break or a relaxing vacation by the beach, people love to travel but in order to do so, they need some things to help them, such as:

  • Suitcases and travel bags
  • Travel adaptors and converters
  • Travel-sized toiletry & beauty product containers
  • Locks and tags for luggage

Basically, stuff that makes it easier for them and their belongings to move from one place to another. There are many options here for an ecommerce business as you could sell generic, branded or personalized travel accessories.

20. Smartphone Accessories

Pretty much everyone has a smartphone (you may even be reading this on one) and as they are an essential part of life, people like to buy accessories to either protect them or make them more usable in their day-to-day life and this can include products such as:

  • Chargers, power packs & cables
  • Protective covers or cases
  • Speakers
  • Headphones or earphones

Why these can be a good business idea is that you can piggy-back off the main product as people will be looking for a cheaper but good-quality alternative to the accessories available directly from the manufacturer and you can choose to sell generic non-branded products or go down the white label route to create your own brand.

21. Camera Accessories & Drones

Even though many people thought that smartphones would kill the camera, it turns out that more people are using ‘proper’ cameras for photography and videography and as a lot of social media is now about sharing videos, cameras, drones and accessories are still big business.

And there are many different products that fall under this category, including:

  • Drones & accessories such as cameras and controllers
  • Lenses
  • Lighting
  • Tripods and Gimbels
  • Carry cases

It doesn’t look like video is going away soon and there are plenty of amateur and professional photographers out there who are always looking for gear that is going to make their life easier and help them get better shots.

22. Music

This may seem like a dying media but there are still a lot of music enthusiasts that want to have a physical copy of their favorite artist’s albums.

This is why vinyl records have seen a resurgence in recent times for both vintage and modern records as many artists are also releasing a vinyl version of their latest album along with the digital version.

Could this happen to CDs? Who knows but there are still opportunities out there to make money from physical albums and singles.

23. Vintage Games

Similar to music, many games now are only available in digital format but there has and will continue to be an interest in retro gaming and while this was originally focused around games from the ’80s and early ’90s, there is now a growing interest in later gaming tech, such as:

  • Playstation 1 & 2
  • Nintendo 64
  • Original Xbox
  • Gameboy

And there are opportunities here as the consoles, accessories and games are becoming rarer due to them being thrown away when they weren’t worth anything. So there is a chance you can make money and get to play vintage games, which is a dream for most gamers.

24. Gaming Accessories

Gaming is a HUGE industry and gamers generally want to have an awesome setup, whether they are playing on consoles or PC and in order to do achieve this, they need to buy gaming accessories such as:

  • Controllers
  • Gaming mouse
  • Keyboards
  • Monitors
  • Headsets

You may be able to find white-label gaming products, meaning that you can create your own gaming accessory brand, which may give you an edge over the competition and if you wanted to go one further, you could always private-label products to have your own unique products.

25. Books

People love to read and many prefer to read a ‘proper’ book than use something like a kindle, which is why there are thousands of new books being published and printed every month.

There are also many different types of books out there such as:

  • Factual books such as biographies, history and cookbooks
  • Fiction
  • Educational books such as textbooks, study guides and encyclopedias

Some older books can be very rare and valuable either because they have been lost over time or they had a short print run.

26. Children’s Toys

It doesn’t matter how many digital gizmos a kid has, they still love playing with real toys that they can interact with and this is why toys are still such a large market with plenty of opportunities, such as:

  • Branded toys such as Lego
  • Unbranded toys that are similar to the name brands (great for parents on a budget!)
  • Pre-owned toys

Toys are a fast-moving niche, with new trends or show-related toys being the hot commodity but there are toys that are almost staples, such as Legos or many board games. There are also vintage toys that fall under the collectibles category that we will cover below.

27. Musical Instruments

One of the skills many people would love to have is to play an instrument and for people who can play, whether as a hobby or profession, they very rarely will just have or want the basic equipment and this is where the opportunity comes in as you can sell:

  • Brand new instruments ranging from beginners to professionals
  • Pre-owned instruments
  • Accessories such as carry cases or amps

Focusing on a single instrument such as guitars or a family of instruments such as brass can be a great way to get started, especially if you can play yourself.

28. Collectibles

We love collecting things and collectors can become almost obsessed with completing their collection, meaning they are prepared to spend (sometimes big) to get the final pieces, which means there is a business opportunity!

Collectibles in itself is a very broad heading and there are lots of other product types on this list that will have collectible products such as toys or books but there are many other options out there, including:

  • Sports memorabilia
  • Auto memorabilia
  • Cards (Pokemon, Baseball etc)
  • Figurines and models

To be successful, you do need to have knowledge and interest around the type of collectible you are selling as this will help you know what is/isn’t in demand and also what is real and fake as when there is money involved, it attracts the fraudsters!

29. Art

When it comes to selling art online, we aren’t talking about multi-million dollar pieces by Picasso or Monet but art that people can display in their home or office and there are many different niches that fall into this category, including:

  • Prints by famous artists as long as they have a public domain license
  • Art created by independent artists
  • Photography
  • Digital inspired artwork

If you are an artist or photographer, then you can sell your own art or you could become a curator for other people’s artwork (many artists like to outsource the selling of their art). You could also set this up as a print-on-demand business, meaning that the pieces are only printed when an order it placed.

30. Craft Supplies

People love to create, which is why many people adopt a craft-based hobby as it allows them to work with their hands and let their creativity flow but in order to do this, they are going to need some supplies, such as:

  • Art supplies – pencils, paints, canvas etc
  • Knitting supplies – wool, needles, templates etc
  • Jewelry making – beads, wire, metal etc

One of the great things about having a craft-based business is that it can be easier to get repeat customers, especially if you supply top-quality items at a reasonable price. It can also be helpful if you do the craft yourself as you will know what people are looking for and be able to provide advice as you will probably get a lot of beginners as customers.

31. 3D Printed Products

An area that has seen massive growth over the past few years is 3D-printed products and it used to be that these machines were very expensive but evolutions in technology have meant that you can have a really good 3D printer for less than $1,000 and this opens up the chance to sell 3D-printed products, such as:

  • Miniatures and figures
  • Custom parts
  • Movie or game-inspired products
  • Castable designs for jewelry etc

To maximize your revenue potential, it can be helpful if you know how to use CAD software so that you can create the designs yourself. If you don’t want to do the printing yourself, there are companies that offer a print-on-demand model for your designs.

32. Stationary & Office Supplies

Even though we are becoming a more digital society, we still need stationery to write things down and organize our life.

When it comes to selling this online, you could sell generic products or offer personalized products for individuals (who doesn’t like a personalized pen?) and/or businesses who want to have their brand put on their stationery.

33. Furniture

Whether it is for the home or workplace, people need all different types of furniture to make their environment comfortable and are now buying:

  • Beds
  • Chairs & sofas
  • Tables
  • Wardrobes & storage

Online as they get access to a far larger selection of products than they would at their local furniture store. You may need a fair bit of storage and a good delivery company though.

34. Interior Furnishings

Furniture itself usually requires some additional furnishings in order for it to be useable, for example, a bed frame and mattress aren’t enough for it to be a bed that you could comfortably sleep in, for that you would need pillows, quilts and sheets.

And this is where the business opportunity lies as people are always looking to make their homes or workplaces a bit more comfortable and you could sell:

  • Bedding
  • Cushions
  • Rugs
  • Picture frames
  • Interior design elements

Having an eye for interior design and staying up to date with the latest can be very helpful in making a business in this niche successful.

35. Kitchenware

One of the most important rooms in the house is the kitchen as who doesn’t like to eat?

And more and more people are cooking as a hobby, whether it is to create the most amazing dish they can, eat healthier or save money on expensive take-out and restaurants but in order to do this, they need some equipment and this could be:

  • Kitchen Appliances
  • Cooking Aids – air fryers, sandwich makers, slow cookers etc
  • Cutlery and utensils

You can also niche down on this, for example, there are companies that just focus on providing the best quality kitchen knives.

36. Home Office Equipment

There has been a huge change to the way we work in recent years, with more and more people working from home and in order to be able to do this effectively and in comfort, they need to buy equipment to build a home office, such as:

  • Desks
  • Office chairs
  • Computers, phones and printers

When it comes to setting up a business in this niche, you can focus directly on the consumer or look to work with companies that supply their staff with the equipment that allows them to work from home.

37. Gardening Equipment

Whether people love gardening or mowing the grass is a weekly chore, they need equipment in order to be able to do this, such as:

  • Electric or gas-powered tools – mowers, strimmers, hedge trimmers etc
  • Hand tools – shovels, forks, rakes etc

You can also expand this to include garden furniture and ornaments as many people like to not only make their garden look good but also have something that allows them to enjoy it as sitting outside on a nice sunny day is one of life’s simple pleasures.

38. Tools & Accessories

Whether it is DIY around the house, working on the car or for a hobby such as woodworking, people need tools and for a lot of people they are the equivalent of toys for adults and in many cases they need tools or accessories in order to be able to complete a task or project, these can include:

  • Power tools – drills, saws etc
  • Hand tools – screwdrivers, wrenches etc
  • Accessories – drill bits, screws etc
  • Storage boxes and chests

There are thousands of different options when it comes to tools and focusing on a single niche can be helpful such as you narrow down the scope of tools you will sell and it is also easier to reach your target market.

39. Car Parts & Accessories

For some people, a car is a tool to help them get from A to B but for enthusiasts, they are so much more and car lovers are prepared to spend good money on their pride and joy, either with:

  • General car maintenance
  • Repairing their car
  • Customizing their car

When choosing a niche for car parts, it can be best to go for either a certain make such as Ford, Mercedes or Toyota or go for a more general car category such as muscle, import or tuners.

40. Pet Supplies & Accessories

It would be impossible to make a list of products to sell online and not talk about pet supplies as people love to look after their four-legged friends and in some cases will spend more money on them than they do themselves!

There are many different products around pets that you could consider, including:

  • Beds
  • Toys
  • Leashes, harnesses and bodywarmer
  • Cages or enclosures for large and small animals
  • Food

This can be expanded even more if you start talking about aquatic or exotic pets, it is a huge niche but one that is always going to have a steady flow of customers and if they like the products you sell, it can be very easy to turn them into return customers.

41. Subscription Boxes

The subscription box is an interesting take on the subscription business model as customers sign up to your subscription and they receive a box in the mail every month with a small selection of products that they can try and use to see if they like it or not.

This can be a great way to get customers to come back and buy their favorite products from you as they may not have bought it otherwise.

Creating mystery or personalized boxes for each customer can make it a bit more special as they are effectively getting a present every month.

Digital Products

The second set of products we’ll be looking at are digital products and you may choose to just sell these or offer them in addition to physical products.

42. Ebooks

One of the original digital products but one that is still very popular to this day and there are many different options when it comes to Ebooks, such as:

  • Fiction – for either adults or children
  • Non-fiction – biographies, history etc
  • Guides – business, career or hobby guides
  • Educational – study aids, textbooks etc

Basically, most books that can be put into print can also be made into Ebooks but the big advantage of the digital version is that you don’t need to find a publisher or pay out of your own pocket to have a run of them printed.

You can also choose to produce them in different formats, for example you could create a PDF Ebook that people download and can print off if they wish or you could create it in a format for e-readers such as the Amazon Kindle or for apps for phones and tablets.

43. Audiobooks

Some people don’t like reading but still want to consume written content and that is where audiobooks come into play and you can choose to create audio versions of your own work or other people’s (if the book has a public domain license).

If you have a great voice, then you can record these yourself or you can outsource it to a professional voice actor using many of the online freelancer services that are available.

44. Music

There are many different options when it comes to selling music as a digital product and while some artists will create music in the hopes of making it big, there are many more applications that musicians and producers can produce tracks for.

This is because there are more and more content creators, whether they are YouTubers, Streamers and even Podcasts that are looking for good quality music to enhance their content.

When it comes to selling your music, you can do it directly through your own website or you can license it through platforms that provide royalty-free music that creators pay a one-off or monthly fee to use and you earn a percentage of this.

45. Stock Video Footage

Videos are similar to music in that you will be creating stock footage (as opposed to music) that content creators can use for b-roll in their videos.

These are often short clips and can be made around pretty much any subject you can think of as creators make videos about everything and anything and often there are times when it isn’t possible for them to produce the b-roll themselves or it’s just not financially viable.

Once again, as with the music, you can choose to sell this via your own site but to get more purchases of your video footage, it is often best to leverage the user base of an existing platform.

46. Stock Photos

product photography

Stock photos can be a great thing to sell online, especially if you are a skilled photographer and you can take photos of anything as there are content creators who need images of products, scenes or locations for their videos or blog.

As with the two options above, you can sell your photography via your own site but contributing your work to platforms with a much larger user base will likely lead to more income for your stock images.

47. Digital Art

People love art and we can now use art in many different ways in our life, which is why it can be a great digital product to sell as it can be downloaded and printed off or used as a background for devices such as phones, laptops or tablets and there are many different types of art you can sell, including:

  • Photography
  • Digital versions of paintings or drawings
  • Digitally created art

You can also expand selling art beyond just digital as you could incorporate print-on-demand so customers could choose a digital version or order a printed one or both.

48. Coloring Books

Many people think of coloring as a children’s activity but in a world where we are more stressed, more and more people are turning to coloring as a way of relaxing and this is where the opportunities lie as a digital product.

To sell coloring books, you can create your own designs or turn existing pieces of art or drawings into outlines that people can color in and as it is a digital product, they can buy it and print it off within a couple of minutes, rather than having to go to the store or waiting for a physical copy to be delivered.

49. Patterns

Crafts are big business and in order for people to make finished pieces for things like:

  • Knitting
  • Sewing
  • Crochet

They need patterns to work from and if you know how to make these or can find someone who can, then you could be on to a winner, especially if you can make patterns for different niches and skill sets as it will be easier to reach your target audience.

50. 3D Printer/CAD Files

3d printing and CAD design are becoming more and more popular as 3d printing becomes more mainstream and cost-effective for businesses and hobbyists but many people don’t have the time, knowledge or software to design their own prints.

And because of this, they are prepared to pay for them and there are many markets for CAD files, including:

  • Miniatures
  • Jewelry design
  • Replacement parts

There are actually too many niches to list, ranging from large to small, specialized audiences but there is plenty of opportunity out there in the 3d printing world.

51. Invitations

Whether it is a birthday party, wedding or any other kind of event where the hosts are going to invest people to attend, they are going to need invitations but traditional printed ones can be quite pricey and might only offer a few designs, which isn’t a problem when you are creating digital versions.

There are a couple of ways you can offer invitations:

  1. Customizable templates – this is where you create a design template and the customer can then go in and edit it for their specific needs
  2. Custom Designed – this is where you work with the client to offer a completely custom-designed invitation

These can then be downloaded by the customer and either printed off so that a physical copy is sent or they can send a digital copy via email, you could also offer a printing service if you wanted at an additional cost.

52. Personalized Gift Cards & Tags

When it comes to the holidays or special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries or weddings, many people will send a card and/or a gift with a tag and while they could go to the store and buy a generic off-the-shelf version, many people prefer to send something a bit more personal.

And that is where selling personalized gift cards and tags can be a good opportunity as you can create templates, which can be customized by the customer once they have purchased the product and they can then download and print it off themselves or you could offer a printing service for this.

Either way, the customer will be able to send a personalized gift card and/or tag to their friends or family that is a bit more special!

53. Recipe Cards

People love to cook and many people love to create their own unique dishes, which they may want to share with family and friends but a scrap bit of paper not only looks a bit rubbish but can also easily get lost, which is why many enthusiastic cooks like to record their creations using proper recipe cards.

And while they could go and buy a generic design, you could offer a template that could be personalized so that they have their own range of recipe cards. It might be worth recommending that they laminate their cards so that they don’t get damaged by greasy fingers!

54. Calendars & Planners

We all live busy lives and keeping track of everything can be a challenge! This is why many people like to use calendars to plan out their month and year and planners to plan their days and week as this helps them manage their professional and personal lives but they need to buy one that fits with their lifestyle, so you could offer:

  • Printable Ones – this is for the people who like to write things down in order to keep track
  • Digital Ones – other people prefer to manage their schedule using their phone or laptop, so you could create a digital calendar/planner that can be easily edited and updated

Either way, there are plenty of options out there for calendars and planners, you could create some that are tailored to some niches to increase the chance of sales.

55. Document Templates

Everybody needs documents for something or other, such as:

  • Letter templates
  • Resume templates
  • Website documents (privacy policies, T&C’s etc)
  • Sales receipts

The list is nearly endless but people need these documents and if you can create templates for these that can be easily customized to fit the needs of the customers, then you could be on to a winner.

You could also offer a customization service such as writing resumes to help people get a job or a better job, if you are a lawyer, you could create templates for legal documents and then make sure they are correct before being used.

There are plenty of options out there when it comes to document templates and focusing on a single niche can be a great way to get started.

56. Online Courses

One type of digital product that has the potential to be very profitable is to create an online course and e-learning is a niche that is likely to see continued growth in the future as more and more people look to learn new skills in the comfort of their own home and at their own pace.

When it comes to the type of course you can create, there are many many opportunities, including:

  • Courses around professional skills
  • Hobby-based courses
  • Short courses (less than 2/3 hours) that cover a single subject
  • Long-form courses that cover a wider range of subjects

You can also choose to run the course in a way that students pay a one-off fee in order to be able to take your course or as part of a monthly subscription (ideal for courses where you plan to add more content).

When it comes to selling online courses, you can do it through your own website using a platform designed for online courses or through a course marketplace such as Udemy or Skillshare.

57. Software

As the world becomes more digital, the need for software continues to increase and there are always gaps in the market and if you can nail this, then you can build yourself a very successful business.

When it comes to the type of software that you can create, there are many options, such as the examples below:

  • Ecommerce Platforms (Shopify, Bigcommerce etc)
  • Website Builders (Wix, Squarespace etc)
  • Email Marketing (MailChimp, Omnisend etc)
  • Design Tools (Canva, Adobe Express etc)

There are way too many to list and there are some very niche-specific software options out there (we focused on ecommerce related ones surprisingly!).

Unlike some of the other software options which we will talk about below, these are all standalone, meaning they aren’t reliant on other platforms in order the be able to operate.

58. Software Extensions

If you don’t want to create your own piece of software from scratch, then you can create extensions/plugins/apps for existing software, such as:

  • Photoshop
  • Rhino (CAD Software)
  • Logic Pro (Recording software for Mac)
  • Web browsers (Chrome, Edge etc)

These can sometimes be easier to get sales for as there is an existing userbase for that software and if your extension can help solve a problem or pain point that people have when using it, you could be on to a winner.

It can be helpful if you are an existing user of the software as you will have a better understanding of how it works and you will likely be involved with the community, which can make it easier to find common issues that people are having.

59. WordPress Plugins

WordPress is the world’s most popular website builder (it currently powers 43% of all the websites in the world!) and part of the popularity is that third-party developers can create plugins that allow you to create all different types of sites, including:

And even though there are thousands of plugins available, there are still many opportunities for new plugins, whether it is a new feature or integration or a better version of an existing plugin.

To create a plugin, you will either need to know how to code yourself or employ the services of a developer to help you create it and when it comes to making money from it, you can make it a paid option but creating a free plugin with limited features that is available through the WordPress plugin library will help you get more users who are prepared to pay for all the features.

Most paid WordPress plugins are billed annually or you can offer a lifetime license.

60. Shopify Apps

Shopify is one of the most popular ecommerce platforms in the world (it powers over 1 million online stores) and is one of the few hosted platforms that allows third-party developers to create apps and even though there are thousands of apps on the Shopify app store, there are still plenty of opportunities.

This is because businesses are looking for additional features, functionality or integrations with third-party platforms as it can help them improve their business and are willing to pay for it.

The big difference between Shopify apps and WordPress plugins is that Shopify apps are billed on a monthly basis, meaning that you get monthly recurring revenue from customers using the paid for version of your app.

61. Website Themes

Everyone seems to have a website these days and every website owner wants their site to look good and load quickly and in order to do this, they are going to need a template for their site.

And many platforms allow third-party developers to create themes and templates, with some of the popular options being:

  • WordPress
  • Shopify
  • Wix

When it comes to selling themes, you can either do this via your own website, online theme marketplaces or official marketplaces such as the Shopify Theme Store and depending on the platform, these may be one-off sales or recurring annual sales.

You could also offer custom themes that are built specifically for a client’s site and these generally cost more than off-the-shelf themes.

62. Website Templates

Website templates are slightly different to themes (although some platforms call themes, templates) as they are basically layouts for website builders such as Wix or Squarespace and will include things like:

  • Homepage layouts
  • Site page layouts (about, contact etc)
  • Color presets
  • Font selections

People can upload these to their site and customize them to fit their branding and this can make the process of setting up a website for the user as they don’t have to go through the process of setting up the pages etc themselves.

You can also niche these templates down to target specific audiences such as content creators, bloggers, podcasters or people looking for a portfolio site. This can be great if you have an eye for design but also know how to optimize layouts for conversions.

63. Social Media Design Templates

There are many different design elements when it comes to social media accounts, including:

  • Logos
  • Cover Art
  • Post Templates

And knowing the right sizes and dimensions for all of these across all of the different social media platforms is almost a job within itself and that is why business and marketing agencies are prepared to pay for templates for these different things as it saves them time.

You can create editable templates that can be purchased and customized by the customer or you could offer to create custom ones, which once again can save the customer time and for some businesses, that is more important.

64. YouTube Channel Art & Graphics

YouTube is Big Business and many creators and channels want the visuals for their channels to be as good as they can be and they are prepared to pay for:

  • Channel art – banners, logos etc
  • Intros
  • Outros

For this, you could offer pre-made templates that could be customized by the customer or you could offer a bespoke design service that means the customer gets a truly unique piece of channel art.

65. Virtual event

A bit of an out-there idea could be to create a virtual event, which have become more popular since the pandemic as it stopped people from traveling and it also opens it up to many more people who might not be able to travel or attend otherwise.

To make a virtual event a success, you would need to:

  • Focus on a niche
  • Get a list of speakers or workshops that people can watch
  • Get people to sponsor the event
  • Have a selection of offers for the attendees

This then provides value to the people that are attending and if their first one is good, then they will be more likely to come back for a second one. You can also create some FOMO around your event by limiting the number of places.

66. Virtual Assistant

Business owners are busy people and as their business grows, they suddenly find that they have less and less time to organize and manage their own lives and that is where virtual assistants can be extremely helpful as the client simply tells you what they need doing and you organize the rest, this could be things like:

  • Booking flights & travel arrangements
  • Arranging meetings & appointments
  • Replying to emails

In most cases, it is the mundane everyday things that can take up a lot of time that the client could be spending doing something far more productive and they are willing to pay people to do this, so if you are good at organizing, then this could be for you.

67. Accounting or Bookkeeping

Even though there are accounting programs out there that allow people to do it themselves, the time and effort to manage their accounts means that they would prefer to outsource this to a professional, plus they may be able to offer some advice or guidance as to how they could manage their money better.

It also gives the client piece of mind knowing that their accounts are in order and any filings/submissions are done at the right time, which for many is worth the cost of outsourcing it.

68. Social Media Management

Having a presence on social media is a must for any online business and should be an integral part of their marketing strategy but many online business owners aren’t that great at getting the most from their social media accounts and if you know how to grow and audience or generate sales via social media, then people will pay for this.

You could choose to specialize in:

  • Organic growth – followers, interaction, reach etc
  • Paid Ads – Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest etc
  • One Platform – Facebook, YouTube, Linkedin etc

In some cases being a specialist in one aspect of one platform, such as generating sales through Facebook Ads can help you get clients rather than trying to do everything on everything as some business owners know which platforms are best for them, they just don’t know how best to run the account.

69. SEO Services

SEO or Search Engines Optimization can be a great long-term marketing strategy but many people don’t know how to do it or even know how to get started with SEO but if you do and you have a proven track record in ranking sites, then you can sell these services to businesses.

You could choose to offer:

  • A fully-fledged service
  • Be a consultant offering advice and guidance
  • Offer a specialist service (link building, content writing etc)

Depending on the type of service you offer, you could be working directly for the end client or providing services to agencies or consultants.

70. Website Design

Even though websites are getting easier to make all the time, many people still prefer to outsource the process as it can be more cost-effective and less stressful that way.

To do this effectively, it is best to focus on one platform that you will use to build websites and this could be:

  • WordPress
  • Shopify
  • Wix
  • Opencart

You could also specialize in one segment of the market such as bloggers, portfolio or ecommerce sites as this will help you build up your own portfolio of existing clients, which can make it easier to find new clients within that niche.

71. Video Editing

Many content creators love making videos but aren’t as fond of the editing process (which is understandable as it can take a long time!) and it is usually one of the first things that a content creator will outsource as it frees them up to spend time working on the things they enjoy doing and you could offer video editing services for:

  • YouTube
  • TikTok
  • Instagram
  • Course Creators

In order to be successful at doing this, you need to understand the style of the channel as all content creators and businesses have their own unique style. You will also need to create a portfolio of work that you have done, so that potential clients can see how good your work is.

72. YouTube Thumbnail Design

Another YouTube-related digital product idea would be designing video thumbnails as these can sometimes be the difference between getting a click or not and is one thing that many content creators struggle with.

This would (as long as you are good) lead to ongoing work as you would be required to make thumbnails for every video that the YouTuber makes, which can be multiple a week for some or once every week or two for others and you would need to understand the content/tone of the video to make a thumbnail that would work.

73. Copywriting

Good quality copy is essential for websites, whether it is copy for:

  • Product pages
  • Landing pages
  • Blog posts

And as creating good quality copy that converts traffic into paying customers is a skill that many business owners lack, they are prepared to outsource this as it can not only save them time but also improve their ROI.

74. Consulting

There are many times when business owners need advice around a certain aspect of their business and there are many reasons why they need to seek the help of an expert and these include:

  • Marketing
  • Growth
  • Taking on staff/HR

And if you have an area of expertise when it comes to business, then you can offer your expertise in the form of being a consultant and the joys of the modern age is that this can all be done online.

There are also areas outside of business where you can become a consultant including Legal, Medical and IT.

75. Teaching

Teaching used to be confined to the classroom but that is no longer the case and many subjects are now taught solely online. which opens up the opportunity for subjects outside of normal education.

There are also a few benefits to teaching online, including:

  • A larger pool of potential students
  • Can be done from the comfort of your home or office
  • More flexible

And you can choose to do 1-to-1 teaching sessions or small groups, with the latter potentially providing more $ per hour.

Conclusion

Coming up with an idea of what to sell online can be challenging and sometimes overwhelming but hopefully, this list has got your creative juices flowing and you have some ideas and things to do more research into, always do your research before getting started.

But there are many options for selling physical products online and you could choose to:

  • Stock and ship the products yourself
  • Dropship
  • Print-on-Demand

And you can expand beyond physical products by offering digital products and/or services, which can be great additional revenue streams and very profitable.
