How to Remove Powered by Shopify

As much as we love Shopify for building an online store, we don’t want to advertise that we use it to our customers, which is why most store owners want to remove the ‘Powered by Shopify’ text that Shopify places in the footer of all new stores.

EcommerceGold isn’t powered by Shopify, this is taken from our demo store

And Shopify has made this very easy to do, you just need to know where to look and that is what we are going to show you in this quick tutorial.

Step 1: Edit Default Theme Content

The first step in removing ‘Powered by Shopify’ is by opening the Edit default theme content settings and this is done by:

  1. Clicking on Online Store to open the Themes page
  2. Clicking the three dots to the left of the Customize button
  3. Clicking on the Edit default theme content option from the menu

Step 2: Find and Remove ‘Powered by Shopify’

Clicking the Edit default theme content opens up a new page showing all of the options for your theme (and there are lots of them!) but you just want to find the sections relating to ‘Powered by Shopify’.

The easiest way to find this is to search for ‘powered’ in the search bar that says ‘Filter items’ and this brings up the options that you need.

As you will see, there are two options that show ‘Powered by Shopify’.

The first one is the one that appears in the footer of your store, to remove this, simply click on the box and enter a space.

The second one is of your store is currently password-protected and you want to remove the ‘This shop will be powered by Shopify’ text from the page that people see when they try and visit your store and the process is the same, simply enter a space in the box and it will remove it.

This will make the boxes look blank, just like in the image below:

Then click save and that is it, the ‘Powered by Shopify’ text will no longer appear on your store and the copyright will just be the year and the name of your store, giving your site a much cleaner and more professional look.
